Today we returned from a shopping trip to find our broody has hatched the first of potentially four chicks. No idea yet whether it is a cock or a hen. Dad is a light sussex, mum is either a rhode rock or a light sussex. Guessing from colour of chick mum is most likely a rock.
ACCP must now sort out all-weather protection before the ‘monsoon’ starts tomorrow… It is quite late in the summer so we will bring them in to the pens if/when the weather turns colder as the broody coop will not afford sufficient protection in the chicken run as it currently is. Assuming it/they survive, POL will technically be around New Year but unlikely they will start laying in the middle of winter!
